On June 27, 2016, a groundbreaking celebration was held at 231 Public Square that included interested community members, local dignitaries and the partners committed in making this historic project happen. Interior demolition began soon after, which entailed First Tennessee moving into its temporary home in the lot behind the building. Exterior construction begins in August, with a completion date of June 2018. Interest in the 231 building has taken off, with a significant percentage of space in the building already leased.
